My Story

Hello, my name is Julie. I am profoundly deaf, and I am a British Sign Language user. I am a mother with five children and three grandchildren. I have a dog and have had animals all my life. I also love walking and other activities such as camping and travelling.

I am raising money for Pet Blood Bank between May and October here on Enthuse - my poster shows the walks I will be doing!

I am doing this because I love making sure we all support each other as well as our pets and the blood bank plays an important role in this. I am a Veterinary Nurse and have been for 18 years. When I am at work, I am fully focused on my job and the animals. They deserve to be supported and I am proud of the role I play in helping them. But we also need to support each other and look after our own wellbeing. For me, walking is a big part of this and doing this at the weekend allows me to relax and recharge, ensuring I am keeping myself healthy and well, to then be able to support the animals and give them what they need. Through this challenge, I aim to encourage people to look after their own wellbeing by walking, raise awareness of Pet Blood Bank, and get information out to the deaf community about both of these things.
